Explain how a Christian would respond to someone who is homeless?

If a Christian saw someone homeless I would think that the first thing that they would do is help this homeless person. They may help them for many reasons.

Firstly they would help this person because in the book of proverbs it says that when you are lending to the poor, you are lending to the lord, and if you help the poor you are helping the lord and he will repay you. This means that a Christian would most likely help a homeless person, and the lord should repay them.

Secondly many Christians would help this homeless person for fear of what may happen to them in the next life if they don’t. Evidence of this is shown in the gospel of Luke in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The parable speaks of how the rich man was sent to hell and couldn’t be saved because he was so greedy and didn’t give any of his food or drink to Lazarus.

Christians also believe that you cant take earthly possessions to heaven and that you should share your wealth and give to others who are less fortunate instead of storing the wealth up for yourself because you cannot take this wealth with you. This is illustrated in the gospel of Luke in the parable of the rich fool where a rich man stores grains in his barns and gets even more yield from his crops so he tears down his barns and builds bigger ones to store his grain. God calls him a fool for there will be no one to inherit his grain. This means he shouldn’t have stored it up but shared it out. Similarly Christians will make sure they have enough and will not take more then necessary and give to the homeless person.

Also in the New Testament the bible it says that if someone is so poor that they have to steal (in this case a homeless person) you should give them your shirt so they do not have to steal. This would mean that a Christian give help or clothes or food to this homeless man.
