Why had four wars not resolved the conflict between the Israelis and the Arabs by 1975? Explain your answer. For many years there has been conflict in the Middle East. Neither side has been willing to compromise and after four wars there is still no resolution. In this essay I will be looking at factors in the conflict and addressing how they prevent the Arabs and the Israelis from reaching peace. The original conflict started well before 1948 with both parties claiming the land and being determined to control all of it. The Jews were being persecuted and treated unfairly all over Europe, they felt the only way to stop this was for them to have a state of their own. In 1807 the buying and selling of slaves was outlawed by the british parliament. By 1833 it had been abolished altogether. However, there are different opinions about why this happened. It is difficult to determine whether politicians approved of prohibition because there are many different groups of politicians and many politicians changed their views over time. A particular group, the Anti-Saloon League, founded in 1893 blamed alcohol for almost all family conflicts claiming that Alcoholic drinks were “un-American, pro-German, crime-producing, food-wasting, youth-corrupting, home-wrecking and treasonable”. In 1920 this group supported prohibition. This caused many of the major political parties who may not have approved of prohibition before, to adopt some prohibitionist policies in order to gain the votes of prohibitionists. In 1745 the Jacobite (followers of James), attempted to regain the crown that was stolen by William of Orange from James Stuart because he was a Catholic.
